The Five Techniques
Effleurage – Your therapist starts with a light touch, gently stroking your skin to ease your muscles into a state of relaxation. Their hands slide gently over your back using different amounts of pressure and either a circular or long, gliding motion.
Petrissage – Next comes a technique, which resembles what you’d do when making bread. Kneading is excellent for muscles that are tense or injured.
Friction – Then, your therapist uses a combination of pressure and precision when rubbing a specific spot. This technique is effective in softening tense muscles.
Vibration – Now, it’s time to shake your muscles up with the vibration technique. Vibration relaxes the nerves and treats areas with scar tissue.
Tapotement – With tapping, the therapist uses the hands to boost circulation and get the endorphins working to boost your mood.
